Environmental friendliness/environmental protection Altastenberg
Test result
Evaluated by Skiresort.info, the world's largest test portal for ski resorts.
The evaluation is done as follows
Environmental friendliness of the ski resort Altastenberg
The mountain meadows surrounding Altastenberg are classified as FFH areas (Fauna-Flora-Habitat). The construction of the snow-making facility was accompanied by biological building experts and the surface vegetation was carefully removed in order to lay the pipes and then put back into place.
T-bar lifts are not so comfortable, but they require less energy to transport people up the mountain compared to chairlifts.
Guests staying in accommodations can ride the bus and train in the region free of charge with the Sauerland Card.
Public transportation/on-site mobility
- No direct train connection
Winterberg (6 km away, bus connection for all arriving trains during the ski season) - Ski buses
- Scheduled buses
- During the week, scheduled buses circulate regularly. On the weekends from the end of December until the beginning of March, the AstenExpress ski bus complements the existing bus offering enabling an uninterrupted connection to the winter sports areas. It travels from the Winterberg train station (connection for all scheduled trains, free for Sauerland Card holders) to Altastenberg in 20 minutes and from Altastenberg to the Nordhang in 5 minutes (entrance to the Winterberg ski resort) and to Neuastenberg (Postwiesen ski resort) in 15 minutes.
