Running an environmentally friendly ski resort is a priority at Dachstein West. Heating for the base station of the Hornbahn Russbach lift is generated by the operation of the Hornbahn lift. Skiing through forest areas is prohibited and the restaurants pay attention to the use of local produce. The resort encourages the use of ski buses for access. Charging points are available for electric cars. The resort produces its own renewable energy with photovoltaic systems. State-of-the-art technologies are used for snow production. Only the quantity of snow required is produced. The ski slopes are also maintained in summer for plant diversity.

Free Postbus ski buses run from Bad Ischl, Bad Goisern, Hallstatt, Obertraun, Golling, Abtenau, St. Martin and Lungötz to the ski resort. There are also free local ski buses in Gosau, Russbach and Annaberg.
