Environmental friendliness of the ski resort Garmisch-Classic – Garmisch-Partenkirchen
Garmisch-Classic encourages travel to the ski resort by public transport with special combined train-ski lift tickets. Some of the energy required for operations is produced by photovoltaic systems and use of recovered heat. A combined heat and power plant is also used to generate energy. A GPS system in the slope grooming vehicles provides precise data on snow depths. This helps to ensure efficient artificial snow production and slope preparation with sparing use of resources. The ski resort also includes a Flora and Fauna Habitat protection area (FFH Directive). No skiing is permitted beyond marked pistes in woodland areas. Pistes are closed if there is insufficient snow coverage.
