Environmental protection of the ski resort Kaunertal Glacier (Kaunertaler Gletscher)

The Kaunertal Valley places great emphasis on sustainable tourism. The objective at Kaunertal Glacier is to create a sustainable recreation area and an energy-autonomous ski resort using renewable energies. 40% of the energy required to power the new Weißseejochbahn lift will be generated by a solar panel system. Environmentally friendly hydraulic power will provide the remainder. The direct drive is more efficient. Local loden material is used in place of heated seats. The glacier ski resort can also be accessed easily on the free ski bus. To protect the glacier, it is partially covered. Regional produce is a priority in the restaurants and waste is carefully sorted.

Public transportation/on-site mobility

  • No direct train connection
Landeck-Zams train station is around 50 kilometres away. Buses run to the Kaunertal Valley and to Kaunertal Glacier.
  • Ski buses
  • Scheduled buses
  • Free ski buses run from Prutz via Feichten all the way to Kaunertal Glacier. The entire Kaunertal Valley is linked by buses.
