The ski resort places great emphasis on protecting the unique natural landscapes in the Dolomites UNESCO World Heritage Site In 2004, the Obereggen lift operator became the first lift company in the Dolomites to implement an environmental management system according to the ISO 14001 standard. Since 2009, the electricity for operating the lifts and snow cannons has been sourced from renewable energy from South Tyrolean hydraulic power. Even the Berghütte Oberholz is heated by geothermal energy. The village of Obereggen has its own district heating system using regional biomass. Use of the ski buses in the Eggental (Val d’Ega) and Val di Fiemme (Fleimstal) is encouraged.
