The ski resort of Mt. Hotham starts at an altitude of 1,450 metres and the village is situated at 1,765 metres. The lowest snowfall line is around 1,100 metres. Mount Hotham therefore looks mainly white in winter. The winter sports resort has an extensive snow-making system for the main slopes in Hotham Central and Big D. Ski operations are therefore guaranteed during the winter months. The slopes at Blue Ribbon, The Drift, Gotcha, Keogh's and the Orchard are reliant on natural snow.
