The ski resort of Mt. Hutt on the South Island enjoys some of the highest snowfalls in New Zealand. It is situated around 90 kilometres as the crow flies from Christchurch on the east slope of the New Zealand Alps. Modern lifts provide access to ski slopes at an altitude of up to over 2,000 metres. There are beginners’ areas, snow parks and freeride options too. The winter sports resort of Mt. Hutt is also a popular training location for international ski teams.
