Environmental friendliness/environmental protection Ruka

Test result

5 out of 5 stars

Evaluated by Skiresort.info, the world's largest test portal for ski resorts.
The evaluation is done as follows

Environmental friendliness of the ski resort Ruka

Protection of the environment plays an important role in Ruka. Strict environmental measures have been applied in all areas since 2008. The ski lifts in Ruka are operated using green energy which means CO2 emissions are reduced to zero. Ruka has been the second climate-neutral ski resort in Finland since 2018 (after Pyhä). Since 2021, the grooming machines have used renewable heating oil, produced 100% from waste and residue. This reduces greenhouse gas emissions by up to 90 per cent in comparison with fossil fuels. The Snowsat GPS system is used for slope preparation to ensure grooming is as energy-efficient as possible. Accommodation is also environmentally friendly and operated using green energy.
