In 1952, the Durmitor mountain range was made a national park. It has been a UNESCO World Heritage Site since 1980. This means that interventions in the natural environment are almost impossible. The resort is entirely reliant on natural snow and the ski resort only opens when there is sufficient snow. It follows a policy of gentle tourism
