The Schmittenhöhe in Zell am See is continuously extending its commitment to environmental and climate protection. The resort uses solar energy and is working towards environmental certification. The Schmittenhöhebahn AG lift operator’s offices meet all requirements for energy-saving buildings. Snow-making operations focus on resource conservation including measurement of snow depth. Biogas is used to fuel skidoos. There is a charging point for electric cars at the base station of the areitXpress lift.
To make Schmitten even more environmentally friendly, the lift operator is the first ski resort in the Salzburg region to apply for environmental certification according to the recognised EMAS Eco-Management and Audit Scheme. Selection as a project partner of the "klima:aktiv mobil” tour (mobility management programme): conversion of slope vehicles to natural gas power.

- Scheduled buses
- The Zell am See-Kaprun region operates an extensive network of free ski buses. Ski buses run between Zell am See-areitXpress-Kaprun-Kitzsteinhorn and within Zell am See and Schüttdorf. There is also a ski bus to the Schmittenhöhebahn lift and from Thumersbach. In the Glemmtal (Glemm Valley), a ski bus also runs between the new base station of the zellamseeXpress in Viehhofen and Saalbach.
