Environmental friendliness of the ski resort SkiWelt Wilder Kaiser-Brixental
The SkiWelt's environmental protection activities are exemplary. The Sonnenlift in Brixen is 100% solar-powered. A solar system is installed at the Jochbahn lift in Brixen. Environmentally friendly snow-making is a priority. In summer, the snow reservoirs are filled mainly with precipitation and snow melt. The piste machines are equipped with a sophisticated system for measuring snow depth on the slopes. This GPS-controlled slope-management system allows efficient and resource-saving management of snow, and consequently huge savings in technically generated snow and energy. 100% renewable energy (environmentally friendly power) from Tyrolean hydroelectric production has been used for many years. In all villages, ski buses run to the lifts. In Scheffau, Hopfgarten and Brixen, there are free charging points for electric vehicles in the car parks. Renewable energy or waste heat are used to heat different lifts in the SkiWelt. There is a waste-sorting system at all base stations and mountain stations and great care is taken with separation of rubbish. There are sufficient rubbish bins available everywhere to avoid pollution of the environment. The ski huts use mainly regional produce and pay attention to sustainability. The colours of the buildings harmonise with the natural surroundings and construction projects are supported by nature conservation experts.
The SkiWelt has already won accolades for its environmental activities, including the Ecological award in the World Snow Awards in 2017.
