Environmental protection of the ski resort Speikboden – Skiworld Ahrntal

Nature and the environment are an important consideration in the Skiworld Ahrntal. A regional focus is very clear on the Speikboden. The mountain huts use mainly regional produce. In the summer, the slopes are green fields and meadows which provide grazing for cattle. The resort of Speikboden places great emphasis on recultivation of the slopes. The Ahrntal Valley is self-sufficient in terms of energy and the ski resort is operated using environmentally friendly hydraulic power. The reservoir on the Speikboden can be filled entirely with snowmelt and its location at around 2,000 metres creates natural pressure that allows more efficient supply of energy to power the snow cannons. Another aim is to make the ski resort plastic-free.
