Beginners can find an ideal practice area with several moving carpets and a 2-person chairlift in Happy Valley. A lift (elevator) provides easy access from the car parks. Happy Valley is one of the best beginners' areas in New Zealand. Happy Valley has its own ski hire and a meeting point for ski schools. The Rockgarden slopes at the Rangatira Express in the lower area of Whakapapa offer very easy runs for practising. Around the mountain station of the Sky Waka Gondola, there are also very easy slopes at the Delta Chair. Advanced beginners can ski some of the wide slopes marked as blue.
