Environmental friendliness/environmental protection Winterberg (Skiliftkarussell)

Test result

3 out of 5 stars

Evaluated by Skiresort.info, the world's largest test portal for ski resorts.
The evaluation is done as follows

Environmental friendliness of the ski resort Winterberg (Skiliftkarussell)

A 5000 square metre photovoltaic facility provides "green" power to the Winterberg all year - about as much as they require for the snow-making facilities during the season. Unfortunately, they let the ski slopes remain open until there is almost no more snow left on them. The encouragement of the use of public transportation and the implementation of the AstenExpress ski bus (only on Saturday and Sunday) in order to reduce the amount of private cars traveling to the resort are further steps towards becoming a climate neutral winter sport region. This is a goal for the Winterberg ski resort. They are currently working on a concept for sustainable development of the Wintersport Arena Sauerland.

Public transportation/on-site mobility

  • Train connection
Winterberg (bus connection during the season to the ski resort for all arriving trains)
  • Small ski bus offering
  • Scheduled buses
  • Scheduled buses circulate during the weekdays and the AstenExpress ski bus is added on the weekends from 26.12 until 3.3 in order to provide a seamless connection to the winter sport activities offered. It travels from the Winterberg train station (connection to all scheduled trains, free for Sauerland Card holders, included in the train ticket to Winterberg) to the lifts in only 8 minutes (Winterberg Rathaus stop, access to the Astenstrasse ski lift).
